JACK Mullins was ecstatic when he learnt of his selection for the Empire Theatre's Senior IMPACT Ensemble, only days after his audition.

At just 14-years-old, the St Joseph's College student is the youngest actor in this year's troupe, comprised of 12 members.

"I got a call from the director who asked me if I wanted the spot," Jack said.

"It was insane, and a little bit surreal, I called my mum and dad straight away (to tell them)."

This year's performance will centre on gothic horror classic Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, titled Who's the Monster?

The ensemble is not only performing the piece, but also contributing to the script.

"It's great experience and I feel there's a lot to learn from (my castmates) - it really does feel like a step up," he said.

Jack said he also received support from St Joseph's College drama teachers Cathie Barton and Nadia Spain.

"(Performing) is one of the best feelings in the world," he said.

"When you first get out there it's nerve wracking but it doesn't take long to get into it."

The group is due to take to the stage in late October.
