Where and when to commemorate Anzac Day across the Toowoomba region this Sunday

There are plenty of Anzac Day services, both dawn and midmorning, across the Toowoomba Region this year. Here’s the full list of places you can commemorate.

Remembrance Day Toowoomba

WHEREVER you are in the Toowoomba region, there’s an Anzac Day service near you.

Numbers are limited at several of these services so residents are also invited to consider participating in the online RSL Queensland’s Light Up the Dawn service.

The Toowoomba City Dawn Service is taking place at 5.30am at the Mother’s Memorial in East Creek Park on Margaret Street.

A march will form up from 5am at the Toowoomba bus depot on Neil Street.

At 9am, there will be a citizen’s wreath-laying ceremony at the cenotaph for people who aren’t a part of the service itself.

Then at 10am, veterans will form up for another march at the Neil St bus depot, with the midmorning service to begin at 10.30am.

Pittsworth and surrounding residents are invited to attend the Pittsworth Dawn Service taking place at the front of the Pittsworth School of Arts Building on Yandilla Street from 4.28am.

From 9am onwards, local Cadets and Scouts will be placing poppies on past servicemen and servicewomen’s graves at the Pittsworth Cemetery.

A midmorning service will take place in the Pittsworth Town Hall, Yandilla St, at 11.30am.

The Cecil Plains service will start with a march followed by a morning service in Henry Stuart Russell Park on Taylor Street.

Participants will assemble at the railway siding on Taylor Street from 9.30am to begin the March at 9.45am, with light refreshments to follow the service.

Westbrook and surrounding residents are encouraged to attend the Westbrook Dawn Service taking place at the Westbrook War Memorial – next to the Westbrook Hall, 114 Main Street Westbrook, from 5am-6.15am.

Highfields and surrounding residents are encouraged to participant in the Highfields Anzac Day Services on Sean McCarthy Way from 5-7am.

No gunfire breakfast will take place after this year’s Highfields Dawn Service.

However, residents are invited to join RSL members at the Highfields Tavern after the midmorning service.

Tickets for both the dawn and midmorning services are free, but strictly capped at 650 for the dawn service and 550 for the midmorning service, with fencing in place, and are available online through Toowoomba Tickets.

Oakey and district residents are invited to the Anzac Day services and parade, with the dawn service running from 5.25am, the parade from 9.40am and the citizen’s commemorative service at 10am at the Oakey War Memorial on the corner of Campbell and McDonald Streets.

Clifton’s Dawn Service will take place from 5.30-6am near the at cenotaph at the Clifton Library and Community Centre on Meara Place, followed by Gunfire Breakfast at the Senior Citizens Building.

A midmorning service will being at 11am.

Millmerran residents can attend the dawn service from 5.30-6.30am at the Millmerran Anzac Park on Campbell Street.

The Gowrie Junction service will start from 5.30am at the Gowrie Junction State School on Old Homebush Road.

Goombungee services will take place at the Goombungee War Memorial on Mocatta Street with a Dawn Service starting at 5.30am and a midmorning march and service from 10.20am.

The Drayton Anzac Day parade will start at 7.20am from the Drayton Memorial Hall, ending at the Drayton Soldier’s Memorial with the service starting at 7.20am and concluding about 8am.

The Crows Nest Anzac Day services will be held at Centenary Park in Crows Nest with the dawn service beginning at 5.30am, followed by a dedication ceremony, then a midmorning ceremony will start at 10.30am.

Jondaryan and district residents are invited to a Citizens Commemorative Anzac Day service at the Jondaryan War Memorial from 8-9am.

Yarraman services will start with a 6am Dawn Service at the Cenotaph followed by gold coin donation breakfast in the Yarraman Memorial Hall.

At 7.30am there will be a pilgrimage to Yarraman Cemetery.

Participants will assemble for the street march at 10.30am in John Street with the march beginning at 10.45, followed by the cenotaph service at 11am before the day concludes with a community lunch at noon in the Yarraman Memorial Hall.

Please bring a gold coin donation.

Greenmount will commemorate Anzac Day at the Bicentennial Park, Ramsay St, Greenmount.

The march will begin at 9.45am with the service to start at 10am.

Over in Cooyar, the march will depart from the Memorial Hall carpark at 10am with a march to Anzac Place for the ceremony.

In Acland, the Anzac Day service will begin at 10am at the war memorial in Tom Doherty Park, Francis Street, Acland.

There will be smoko provided after the event.

Kingsthorpe and district residents are invited to attend a citizens commemorative Anzac Day service at the Kingsthorpe War Memorial Hall from 2pm.

The hall has a maximum capacity of 120 people.

Post-ceremony events in Toowoomba

Tomorrow, the Toowoomba RSL Sub Branch is inviting all members of the public, especially veterans and their families, to the gunfire breakfast following the Dawn Service event.

This year the event will be held at the Railway Goods Shed at 3 Victoria Street, a comfortable walk from the Mother’s Memorial down Chalk Drive.

Breakfast will be served from 6am and is available by donation.

The hospitality will continue throughout the day.

Food will be available, bar facilities will be operating all day and there will be raffles as well as a merchandise stall.

The day is being supported by the Spotted Cow Hotel, Four Brothers Brewing, and Xpresso Coffee Van.

Last but not least, Toowoomba’s biggest two-up ring will kick off from 12.30pm at the Railway Goods Shed and run until about 4pm.
