IN GOOD news for the Darling Downs, the Bureau of Meteorology has predicted a wet week ahead.
Yesterday evening Toowoomba received small falls between 1mm and 5mm, with more rain forecast for this afternoon.
Toowoomba Airport recorded 5.2mm yesterday, while Oakey recorded 1mm, Highfields received 4mm, and further north Springbluff received 7mm.
Bureau of Meteorology meteorologist Dean Narramore said more showers and a possible thunderstorms were predicted for Toowoomba this afternoon.
“It could be a severe storm towards the Western and Central Downs,” Mr Narramore said.
“It will be 1-5mm with the showers and if you get under the storm it’ll be about 25mm, but that’ll be very localised.”
Mr Narramore said rain would continue for the rest of the week.
“We should see isolated showers and thunderstorms most days this week for most of the Darling Downs,” he said.
“If you average it all out over the week (for Toowoomba), generally we’re looking at 25-50mm over the whole week.
“West of Toowoomba will be about 15-25mm for most of the Downs for the week, with isolated heavy falls with thunderstorms.”
The rain will come with cooler weather and higher humidity, weather which Mr Narramore described as “more normal Queensland summer weather”.
“Toowoomba can expect temperatures between 29-31 degrees for much of the week and further inland we’ll be looking at the low 30s.”
