Tributes flow for ‘beautiful mother’ after drowning tragedy

A TOOWOOMBA family is in mourning after a young mum drowned while swimming with her daughter on a Coolum Beach yesterday morning.

Natasha Thorpe has been remembered by friends as a caring mum after her passing yesterday morning.

Tributes have flowed in for Natasha Thorpe, who has been remembered by friends as a kind and thoughtful woman.

"This breaks my heart, she was a really lovely lady," one person wrote on Facebook.

"Rest in peace Tash, you were a beautiful mother, thinking of your family," another added.

Ms Thorpe, 34, had been enjoying a morning swim at First Bay with her 11-year-old daughter and other family members, when she became caught in the strong surf.

Board riders found Ms Thorpe floating in the water just before 7am and brought her to shore, where off duty lifesavers and members of the public performed CPR until paramedics arrived.

Unfortunately Ms Thorpe could not be revived.

Natasha Thorpe has been identified as the victim of an accidental drowning this morning.

A witness, who did not wish to be named, was on her morning walk near First Bay about 6.45am, when she saw the emergency services desperately trying to save Ms Thorpe.

"They were just working so hard," the witness said of the effort.

"Two paramedics tag teaming for ages - it felt like more than an hour.

"We were just hoping and hoping, they weren't giving up on her.

"It was incredible work from them, going hell for leather for so long."

The witness said it was a distressing scene.

"The surfers who pulled her out were pretty upset - it was tragic," the person said.

A report on the incident is now being prepared for the coroner.

Her death comes just three days into the September school holidays.
