THERE are reports of a widespread power outage after a truck collided with a power pole on Gordon St, in North Toowoomba.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said the initial report stated the driver excited the vehicle but did not engage the handbrake.

"The truck has then rolled back, into the power pole." she said.

The collision brought down the powerlines and cut electricity to nearby traffic lights on Ruthven St.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area.
