Toowoomba’s town crier wins big on The Chase

Toowoomba’s town crier, Kevin Howarth, has won big on a hit television game show.

TOOWOOMBA'S town crier Kevin Howarth made an appearance on channel 7 game show The Chase on Monday night, where he and his teammates took out the win.

Mr Howarth's team won $41,000 which they split four ways between them, taking home $10,250 each.

Mr Howarth stood out in brightly coloured attire, and when it was his turn to verse the chaser, the Governess Anne Hegerty, she came out wearing sunglasses.

"I can see those clothes from space Kevin," Ms Hegerty said on the episode.

"I thought I'd brighten up your day, Anne," Mr Howarth replied.

When The Chronicle caught up with Mr Howarth, he said it was the first time one of the chasers had ever used a prop.

"I did want the Governess, I like her," Mr Howarth said.

"Behind that persona I think she's quite a nice lady.

"You don't know until the day, and it's just whoever walks out."

Mr Howarth said the episode was filmed in September last year, and he had to keep the outcome a secret for months.

At the time of filming, Mr Howarth told host Andrew O'Keefe that if he won, he would use the prize money to take his 86-year-old mother on a world cruise.

"Instead of the cruise I'll buy a canoe for me and her, because I won't be taking her on a cruise," Mr Howarth said.

"My primary source of income is a DJ, I do weddings and parties.

"In these terrible times that we're all having it will help pay off a few bills that I'd normally pay with my income from DJing."

Mr Howarth said he hoped the episode brought some brightness to people's lives in such a dark time.
