A Ukrainian-born woman and two friends of Polish heritage have taken to the Toowoomba streets to show support for the Ukrainian people.

Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy yesterday called for a global protest against the war in Ukraine, one month since the Russian invasion began.

“People in Ukraine, they need to see we are with them and we stand with them. we understand what is going on and we can see the truth,” Ukrainian woman Anna Yevdokimov said.

“Ukraine is a peaceful country and all of this accusation from Russia, it’s just a lie.”

Mrs Yevdokimov’s family, including her parents and siblings, live in the city of Kharkiv, that has been under heavy attack since the invasion began.

“It’s been bombed constantly. Even yesterday, I spoke with my mum over Skype and I could hear the explosions,” she said.

“Russians bomb them, and Ukrainian army resists. They’re so strong and I’m so proud actually. It’s unbelievable.”

Mrs Yevdokimov said her family has spent the majority of their time in shelters, and she’s unsure when she will see them again.

“This is our land. My Dad said, it didn’t matter how much time I (had) left, this is my home and this is my land. It’s heartbreaking for me.”
