A beautiful koala who was believed to have been hit by a car has been transported home by a Toowoomba wildlife group, after she was treated and rehabilitated by Australia Zoo.
Blossom, who was discovered in Kingaroy with a fractured jaw and tear in her mouth, was rushed to the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital on the Sunshine Coast several months ago.
“While the exact cause of her injuries were unknown, the severity and location of the trauma indicated they may have been caused by an altercation with a car,” the hospital posted on Facebook.
“Knowing it was her only chance of survival, we rushed her into emergency surgery, carefully repairing her jaw with a specialised plate and screws.
“The fracture was very complex with multiple bone fragments requiring attention (but thankfully, the surgery was a success and Blossom began her recovery.
“After almost three months receiving around the clock care, including daily cleaning of her wound and a second surgery to remove the plate and screws from her jaw, she has made a full recovery and has now been released back into the wild.”
The Toowoomba Koala and Wildlife Rescue transported her back to her native habitat.
“She certainly was a sweetheart,” the group posted online.
