Toowoomba to receive a month’s worth of rain in one week

Significant rain and thunderstorms will be keeping Toowoomba region residents indoors this weekend, as the region prepares for almost a month’s worth of rain in one week.

Heatwaves could make Sydney unliveable within decades

Toowoomba may not be included in the lockdown mandate for Queensland, but residents might find themselves wanting to stay inside at the end of this week with a significant weather event predicted.

The Toowoomba region is tipped to receive almost its entire July rainfall total in just a matter of days thanks to a trough heading inland from the coast.

Bureau of Meteorology meteorologist Rosa Hoff said thunderstorms and rainfall were on the horizon for Toowoomba on Friday and Saturday, with some major rainfall totals anticipated.

“Around Toowoomba we usually get 26 to 27 millimetres in July and we’re forecasting that we could get 20 mms in the lower end over the course of the next few days,” she said.

“Possible we could see July average rainfall achieved in first week of July.”

Toowoomba will be missing out on the tail-end of a coastal shower, only expecting to see a few drops of rain on Thursday before more of a deluge on Friday and Saturday.

About 10 to 20 millimetres are expected to fall on both Friday and Saturday.

Temperatures are expected to drop during the week as well, hitting a low at the beginning of next week.

“Daytime maximum temperatures drop about two or three degrees, hovering around nine, 10, 11 degrees minimum for the last couple of days, and 15 for Monday and Tuesday,” Ms Hoff said.

“Often we do start to see a drop down here and there just thanks to the fact that the cold weather systems move through the southern states.”

Ms Hoff said rainfall predictions as well as the drop in temperatures were fairly consistent across the entire region.

Monday and Tuesday are likely to experience clear skies, but the drop in temperature will hit hardest at the beginning of the week.

Southeast Queensland have similar predictions but on a larger scale, with rainfall numbers expected to hit between 60 and 80 mms.
