TOOWOOMBA student Mahsa Nabizada said she wanted to make a difference in her new role as the Queensland youth parliament representative for Toowoomba South.
A Year 10 student at Fairholme College, Ms Nabizada is passionate about youth engagement.
"The YMCA Queensland youth parliament is a lifetime opportunity which I'm honoured to take up," Ms Nabizada said.
"Acknowledging the youth of our communities as part of today's society not just tomorrow's leaders is what Queensland Youth parliament represents for me.
"I hope to encourage other young people to get involved and empower leadership - I'm delighted to be given a platform to learn and share."
Ms Nabizada decided to get involved with youth parliament after doing volunteer work.
Member for Toowoomba South David Janetzki said he appreciated Mahsa's passion to talk on issues young people faceD in the community.
"Youth parliament is a great opportunity for young people like Mahsa to be a voice for their peers, learn about Queensland's democratic process, share ideas and debate bills in parliament," Mr Janetzki said.
"Mahsa and her fellow youth leaders are bridging the gap between legislators and young people in Queensland."
Youth members will keep in contact over the next few months to write their bills and are hoping they will get the opportunity to return to parliament house to debate their bills if COVID restrictions are eased.
