Toowoomba South MP David Janetzki condemns harassment and assault of women

Janetzki says March 4 Justice rallies were “a true cry for national action”.

Toowoomba South MP David Janetzki said “enough is enough” when it comes to the harassment and assault of women across Queensland.

Speaking in parliament this week, Mr Janetzki said the recent March 4 Justice rallies held around Australia and in Toowoomba were “a true cry for national action”.

Mr Janetzki was among parliamentarians from both sides of the political divide united this week to acknowledge the marches and condemn harassment and assault of women across Queensland.

“These last few weeks have provoked important conversations … in the workplace, in the public square, and most importantly, in homes,” he said.

“My wife, with a career in the performing arts, has shared instances of harassment with me that she has never shared before – experiences that she felt ashamed to share with me, her best friend since we were 18 years old.”

Mr Janetzki said he honoured the courage of women.

Ferny Grove MP Mark Furner recalled his time visiting workplaces as a union official.

“Unfortunately, many of the workers I represented were women who were violated, generally by supervisors, in their workplaces.

“I will never forget one particular workplace in Toowoomba. It was a small … manufacturing plant that is no longer around,” he said.

“A supervisor would call on women to climb ladders so that he could perv at their underwear while they changed machinery. He demeaned them and their involvement in that workplace.”
