RESIDENTS’ prayers for a rainy Christmas were answered yesterday, with around 10mm - 30mm of rain falling across the region.

According to the Bureau of Meteorology website, Withcott recorded 30mm of rainfall over the last 24 hours, Upper Lockyer 34mm, Oakey 25mm and Toowoomba City 13mm.

Most of the rainfall fell overnight on Christmas Eve.

Unfortunately the wet weather is not to last, with dry conditions predicted for the following days.

“The rain was brought through by an upper trough that has now moved north,” BoM forecaster Michael Knepp said.

“It’s going to be fairly quiet in regards to weather in the next few days.

“We’ll see fresh easterly winds at times which will help to suppress temperatures. On New Year’s Day it may be warming, but at this stage our predictions are preliminary.”

The BoM forecast for New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day shows mild weather with highs in the 30s. No rain is forecast.
