MARANOA MP David Littleproud has defended the Federal Government’s infrastructure investment in the Toowoomba region, saying the area would receive over $20 million in grants.
“The Toowoomba Regional Council will receive $23.3 million this financial year to build shovel-ready local priorities, through extensions to the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program, Roads to Recovery Program, Financial Assistance Grants and the Bridges Renewal Program with a new bridge for Tummaville Road,” Mr Littleproud said.
“Toowoomba and surrounds will also benefit from safety upgrades of $1.9 million towards black spots on Kingsthorpe-Haden Road and the Yalangur-Lilyvale Road under the Coalition’s Black Spot Program.”
Mr Littleproud also highlighted the government’s continued funding of already announced projects, like upgrades to the New England Highway, Gore Highway and Warrego Highway.
He said the Southern Downs Regional Council would receive $8.6 million for shovel-ready local priorities, Maranoa Regional Council would $22.6 million, Western Downs Regional Council $24.1 million and South Burnett Regional Council $10.6 million.
Other big ticket items included income tax cuts and a new JobMaker scheme, which will give businesses $200 a week for hiring young people aged 18 to 29.
The Federal Government will also bring forward stage two of their income tax cut plans, which were meant to come into effect in 2022.
