TOOWOOMBA has received 111mm of rain over the past week, and the Bureau of Meteorolgy has forecast more to come.

BOM Meteorologist Peter Markworth said most of Toowoomba’s rain was received Friday night and Saturday morning, where 67mm was recorded.

Dalby received 74mm while areas between Oakey and Toowoomba received over 100mm over the same night.

Mr Markworth said an upper trough which had been sitting over southern Queensland was the catalyst for all the rain.

“That combined with a surface trigger and plenty of moisture is allowing them (storms) to drop plenty of moisture over broader areas,” Mr Markworth said.

“There is still potential for thunderstorms in Southeast Queensland including the Darling Downs and regions to the east for the next couple of days with easing trends.

“It tends to be focused more towards the coast as we get to the end of the week.”

Mr Markworth said flood-affected areas of the Darling Downs should start to see water recede.

“Flash flooding is always a possibility with any heavy rainfall but generally those floodwaters are receding slowly and going down stream,” he said.

‘So areas down stream of those affected areas will start to see river rises.”
