A special group of community crafters are excitedly preparing for one of the biggest craft events on the calendar as the countdown for this weekend’s international craft show, CraftAlive 2021 gets under way.
USQ’s Clive Berghofer Rec Centre is set to be transformed into every crafters dream, with hands on displays from world class specialists with interactive classes and the latest craft supplies, kits and equipment and the dedicated members of the Toowoomba Quilters Club are going to be amid all the action.
Following the terrible Drayton house fire back in January, Toowoomba Quilting Club’s community quilting co-ordinator, Fay Suley was able to deliver three quilts for the Acuil family the next day.
“I am sure they were greatly appreciated,” she said.
“Toowoomba Quilting Club is very passionate about giving back to the community and we are looking forward to doing just this at this weekend’s CraftAlive event.
“The CraftAlive organisers have generously offered us space to have a mini quilt show for our Community Quilting Group.
“This group, through hard work during lockdown have many beautiful quilts ready to be distributed.
“These will be all be displayed at CraftAlive, and then be given to various charities.”
Ms Suley said Toowoomba Quilters Club will also be displaying their beautiful Art Union Quilt and selling raffle tickets with proceeds to benefit Protea Place.
“Our stunning Art Union Quilt is a queen size quilt with an approximate value of $250 and was sewn by members and machine quilted by “Quilt Affair” from a design by Glenys Pugliesi of Glenrose Patchwork in Warwick,” she said.
To see the talented local quilters work for yourself, head to the CraftAlive event this weekend.
CraftAlive will be in Toowoomba from this Friday, February 26 to Sunday, February 28 at the Clive Berghofer Rec Centre in Baker St.
There will be plenty of vendors there with several great crafts to demonstrate, including scrap booking, crochet, patchwork and quilting from 9am-4pm each day.
Tickets start at $14 for concession card holders and students and $15 for adults and can be prepurchased from the CraftAlive website.
