Toowoomba pub welcomes second opening after unlucky timing

After closing shortly after its opening week due to coronavirus, a Toowoomba venue is hoping for better luck as it prepares to reopen again on Friday.

IN MARCH, the team at The Met Hotel celebrated its opening night after months of hard work and renovations - but a fortnight later, coronavirus restrictions saw the doors close again.

Now the pub's owners Kosta and Jasmine Theodosis are hoping for better luck as they prepare to reopen the venue on Friday, following the easing of restrictions.

"We were speaking to the Queensland Hotels Association and they informed us that we were the worst timed pub in all of Queensland," Mr Theodosis said.

"It was sad to be closed down after such a big build up, the excitement of getting the doors open and having such an amazing couple of opening weeks.

"We pretty much closed the doors and went back to renovating and working on upstairs - all of the little things we hadn't gotten around to."

Although the timing was unfortunate, the venue has many advantages, one of which being space.

"We're lucky here, we have lots of different rooms, so it works well for us because it's not open plan," Ms Theodosis said.

"If we follow the one person per four square metre rule, our capacity (on Friday) could be close to 80 people."

Mr Theodosis said the pair was now eagerly awaiting the second opening.

"We went through it in our heads and were like we have to do this we have to get open - we're now keen to see how it pans out," he said.

"We messaged our team and we have the same crew back that we had before, which was a big one for us.

"You can't change the situation, the only thing we can do is accept it."

"It's been such a journey to get to this point, so nothing surprises us anymore," Ms Theodosis said.

The Met will be open from lunch until late on Friday and Saturday this week.
