A TOOWOOMBA private school has lodged plans with the council to expand its campus with a new music learning facility.
Toowoomba Christian College on the New England Highway at Highfields submitted the proposal for a new 368 sqm music block last week.
According to the report by Precinct Urban Planning, the new extension would provide both outdoor and indoor learning environments for students.
"The new music facility has been architecturally and purpose-designed to provide indoor/outdoor learning areas," the report said.
"(This) includes a music room, choir practice area, band practice area, two recording areas, four practice rooms, music storeroom, instrument storeroom, office, covered learning area and covered lunch area.
"The design of the facility provides visual interest through the use of curved and angular-shaped rooms.
"The development makes provision for 368 sqm of additional gross floor area and the single storey will have an overall building height of 6.97m which includes supports where the lightweight construction design of the building steps down the slope.
"The facility will include a mix of building materials including brickwork with a sandstone beam over the proposed colonnade and extensive areas of glazing on each elevation."
The new block will reportedly not result in an increase to staff or student numbers or require a water connection.
"The building does not require any plumbing connections and therefore, will not be connected to the reticulated water supply or on-site wastewater disposal facilities," the report said.
The council has yet to respond with a request for further information.
