Toowoomba identity approved for luxury units
A REVISED proposal for a set of luxury units by one of Toowoomba’s most well-known philanthropists has been approved by the council.

A REVISED proposal for a set of eight luxury units by one of Toowoomba's most well-known philanthropists has been approved by the council.
Applicant Clive Armitage was given the green light this week to develop the three-storey units, each with three bedrooms, slated for a large parcel of land on Tourist Rd in East Toowoomba.
The original development approval from March was for eight four-storey units, featuring a top-floor penthouse.
But Precinct Urban Planning's Paul Kelly said the developer decided to remove the top floor, while retaining the same build quality.
"This development application seeks to reduce the scale to a three-storey building with undercroft carpark and two residential levels while maintaining a development comprising eight apartments," he wrote in his planning report.
"The reduction in scale proposed by this application arose following a review of construction costs for the four storeys building approved under (the previous) development."
"The changed development still maintains a high standard of architectural design and sensitively takes into consideration the appearance of the development from both road frontages and adjoining neighbouring properties acknowledging the number of storeys has been reduced.
"The development still includes a variety of building materials and colours with variations in roof height and wall articulation which greatly assists in reducing the potential bulk and scale of the appearance of the building when viewed external to the site."
A TRC planning scheme amendment last year meant the alteration could not be logged as a "minor change", with Mr Armitage having to submit a whole new application.
The development also included reports into waste management and engineering.
It is not clear what conditions the council imposed on the new approval, however more than 90 were laid out in the previous DA from March.
