More than 60 Toowoomba year 12 students snipped off locks or bared their heads as they raised almost $100,000 for the Leukemia Foundation in the World’s Greatest Shave.
The 2024 cohort of Fairholme College seniors set a new standard of giving, as the team of 71 students and staff worked together to fundraise for the World’s Greatest Shave.
As of Saturday midday, the massive Friday school shave had fundraised $97,032.90, and deputy principal Catrina Sharp said it was unexpected surprise, almost doubling what they usually raised at past events.
“The cohort of girls are very mature, considered and are inspirational every day,” she said.
Fairholme year 12 student Rachel Yap, who raised more than $4000 for her shave, said it was a nice feeling to be part of a community so supportive and to do something for people who are suffering from blood cancer.
“I’m just very grateful that I have hair I can donate and I’m able to give it back,” she said.
“It feels so crazy, very liberating, I haven’t actually looked at myself in the mirror yet, but if it feels good.”
