Toowoomba Empire Theatre hosts Teddy Tahu Rhodes, Josh Piterman and Guy Noble in concert

Three of the biggest names in musical theatre will be taking over the stage in Toowoomba in an exclusive, one night only performance. Here’s how you can see them.

Toowoomba’s Empire Theatre is no stranger to big names and groundbreaking performances, but an upcoming show hitting the stage in May might be one its best.

A trio of global stars will be taking over Toowoomba with a star quality performance, one they say communities have been craving for years during the pandemic.

Musical theatre stars Teddy Tahu Rhodes, Guy Noble, and Josh Piterman will take to the stage, performing a mix of iconic West End and Broadway hits along with classical pieces from big names like Pavarotti and Bocelli.

Teddy Tahu Rhodes is renowned for reprising roles in musicals like The King and I, and A Streetcar Named Desire, with a career spanning over 30 years.

He said at its heart, the show would focus on entertaining, and interacting with audiences.

“It’s just for people to come along and hopefully have a great time, be entertained, and have some fun as performers on stage,” Rhodes said.

“We have a structure but we try and ad lib as we go and we try and interact.”

Together, Rhodes and his co-performers will take on the greats of musical theatre from Phantom of the Opera to The King and I, as well as operatic masterpieces like Nessun Dorma.

Pianist Guy Noble will be accompanying the pair on stage.

He described the Empire Theatre as an “old friend” having performed there many times before.

Of this upcoming performance he said there would be a mix of solo performances, as well as ensemble performances between the trio, incorporating old classics with a bit of comedy too.

“We like to perform very serious things, beautiful pieces of music, and have fun around the edges,” he said.

Noble said the performance would be unlike anything that had hit the Empire Theatre before.

“I can guarantee that you’ll feel better after you’ve seen the show than when you came in,” he said.

“That’s all we can hope for.”

Star performer Josh Piterman, who most recently starred as the Phantom in Phantom of the Opera was approached by Rhodes and Noble to accompany them in these performances.

Piterman said it was surreal to perform with stars who he had looked up to for “years and years”.

“Teddy, myself and Guy are all really fun, normal, jovial men and I think what we bring is an element of joy and fun and laughter intertwined with such beautiful music,” he said.

“It’s an opportunity for people to feel really relaxed and have a good time.”

“They both come with such rich histories and CVs and such successful careers both together and in their own right.”

The performance will be held on May 11, at 7.30pm.
