Toowoomba child care services to merge

A TOOWOOMBA child care centre has made good on its promise to expand before the new year by purchasing another childcare premise.

A TOOWOOMBA child care centre has made good on its promise to expand before the new year.

The Kath Dickson Family Centre has purchased Toowoomba Central Childcare, with plans to merge the two services at the Jennings St premise next month. The new centre will be named the Kath Dickson Education and Care Centre Toowoomba Central.

The original Lawrence St location will be used to house the businesses' toy library alongside new playgroups.

"We have been hosting our toy library at Harlaxton State School and following discussions, their enrolments have expanded and they will need that space back," Kath Dickson Family Centre CEO Ken Murphy said of the move.

"The plan for next year was always to expand and grow our support services and playgroups, so we decided to bring it forwards.

"(Toowoomba Central Childcare) has a capacity of 75 children and our occasional care service can fit 21 - so that gives us the opportunity to grow."

Mr Murphy said they would combine staff and students at the new centre, which would open its doors on December 2.

"It's all been very positive and we are doing everything possible to make sure it will be a smooth transition," Mr Murphy said.

"We will be offering families the option of regular booked days or care just when they need it, as well as the provision of on-site meals and a significantly larger outside play area than we are currently able to offer."
