Thousands of students across the state receive incorrect correspondence

A testing error has caused panic overnight, with 24,000 students receiving an email telling them they were “ineligible” for an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank.

Students across the state have received incorrect correspondence overnight.

A number of Toowoomba students were among the thousands to receive incorrect correspondence, which was sent out in an email by the Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre just after midnight.

The notification reportedly told students they were “ATAR ineligible” and gave an incorrect release date for the results.

Fairholme College tackled the issue head on this morning with a post to its Facebook page.

“QTAC wishes to advise that they have inadvertently sent emails out to a large population of Year 12 students stating that they are ATAR ineligible,” the post read.

“This is an error and follow up communique is to follow. Ignore the initial email.”

Earlier today QTAC published an apologetic statement on its website.

“QTAC acknowledges this technical error and deeply apologies to our Year 12 cohort, this has no doubt caused additional anxiety during what has already been a trying year for our school community,” QTAC CEO Dr John Griffiths said in the statement.

He said the official release of ATAR would occur on Saturday December 19.

This year is the first time Queensland students will receive an ATAR score instead of an OP rank.

The ATAR scores will determine student’s eligibility for certain university and course admission.
