A NEW road between Toowoomba and Highfields is one of several projects a Toowoomba MP says could drastically boost the region's economy in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
During a debate in the Queensland parliament on Wednesday, Toowoomba South MP David Janetzki, who is a member of the opposition, told the parliament there were several projects the State Government should advance.
"In Toowoomba and right across Queensland, there is a range of projects on which this government could bring forward spending to deliver stimulus out of Queensland," Mr Janetzki said.
"Get behind a Fernleigh project that will deliver prosperity to the western suburbs of Toowoomba.
"Or a road along Boundary Street that will connect Highfields to Westbrook right along the western fringe of Toowoomba."
Mr Janetzki said continued upgrades to our major roads, like the Warrego Highway, New England Highway and Gore Highway would also bring economic boosts to the region, as would the Inland Rail project.
It's not the first time in recent months Mr Janetzki has come out in support of ambitious project proposals.
Last month he threw his support behind a push for an entertainment centre to be built at Wellcamp.
"We've always been a bold region and we now need to be even bolder," Mr Janetzki said at the time.
Mr Janetzki urged the government to work with TSBE and the Toowoomba Chamber of Commerce on projects.
