Meg Gannon was one of four named Young Journalist of the Year at the awards on Thursday evening, which celebrate excellence in journalism and storytelling in News Corp Australia newsrooms across the country.

Meg started as a cadet reporter with the Dalby Herald in 2018 and joined The Chronicle editorial team in September.

“Being a journalist isn’t about the awards or recognition, but I’m very proud to have been named a Young Journalist of the Year for News Corp alongside three other incredible women,” she said.

“I’d like to thank everyone I worked with in Dalby and have worked with so far in Toowoomba More than anything, I have to thank those who have trusted me with their stories and allowed me to share some of their most vulnerable moments, and greatest challenges. Your trust and belief in me is what has helped me to where I am today, and for that I am so grateful.

“I started as a journalist because I wanted to be an advocate for people who are marginalised or excluded, and to be a champion for those whose voices can’t quite meet the masses. If I have helped at least one person through my work, or opened one person’s eyes to the issues that face their community, that in itself is the greatest reward.”
