Hutchinson Builders are powering ahead with the construction of the Regional Trade Distribution Centre at Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport.
Two months ago, there was plenty of fanfare as Deputy Premier Steven Miles stood with the Wagner brothers and turned the sod for the construction of the facility.
Already, the structure of the state-of-the-art trade hub has taken shape, with the project due for completion in the middle of the year.
The $20 million temperature-controlled freight facility will “supercharge” airfreight access for agricultural producers in Toowoomba and on the Darling Downs.
Wagner Corporation’s John Wagner has previously said the 3500 sq m facility would increase Wellcamp Airport’s cold chain capability, with both chilled and frozen storage.
The Queensland Government put forward $10 million for the project, which the Wagners matched.
The facility will export premium goods including beef, dairy products, fresh fruit and vegetables, pork and packaged nuts.
The Wagners are even in discussion with Whitsunday Regional Council about getting freight from north Queensland onto their freighters into Asia.
