Southwest Queensland town’s connection to new MAFS star

ALL screens at a pub in a small southwest Queensland town will be tuned to Married At First Sight tonight, as one of their own enters the experiment.

ALL screens at the Tara Commercial Hotel were tuned to channel 9 last night, as one of the pub's own stepped up to find love on reality TV series Married at First Sight.

Drew Brauer made his debut appearance on the televised experiment, entering the show as one of four 'intruders'.

The series follows the lives of new couples, who start the experiment by getting "married" as strangers.

Alongside him at his "wedding day," shown on TV last night, was mum Tracey and dad Owen, owners of the Tara Commercial Hotel.

"When we first heard we just laughed, because he's a bit of a practical joker," Ms Brauer said.

"But he's an adult, so he can make his own decisions and we'll support him.

"I think everyone's quite excited, we're all coming together at the pub tonight to watch it."

Mrs Brauer admitted she was a new to the show, but had been keeping up with the latest season.

"It's something a little bit different but he's a sensible boy," she said.

"As long as he comes out of it looking good I'll be happy - I hope he finds what he's looking for."

At 32 years of age, Mr Brauer has already lived an interesting life.

Born in Toowoomba and raised in Tara, he trained as electrician before moving to Cairns and becoming a musician.

"I had been single for a little while and the opportunity came up and I kind of liked doing things that are a bit out of the norm - I though it might just be crazy enough to work," Mr Brauer told The Cairns Post.

"Totally separate from the relationship, the show was probably the hardest thing I've ever done in my life - the whole filming process, how that works, being away from everybody and not being able to tell anybody.

"I definitely don't think I would go on another reality TV show. It was pretty full-on."
