A colourful explosion of voices has taken over The Empire.
The biennial festival Sing Out has seen almost 1500 upper primary school students from more than 40 schools involved over the past three days.
Different schools each day have been rehearsing and having their choral work appraised before presenting to an audience each evening.
A 500-strong choir concludes each evenings performance in a colourful showcase of voices.
Choirs of individual schools perform first then, after much organising backstage, the curtain is raised to reveal the massed choir reaching 15 rows high above The Empire stage.
Specialist music teacher Denise Muller of Harristown State School is behind this year’s festival, her 12th since the year 2000.
The aim of Sing Out is to celebrate the voice and encourage a love of music.
Ms Muller said it was not a competition but gave students a unique opportunity to perform in a magnificent theatre.
“One thing that everyone can do is sing, not everybody plays a musical instrument, not all schools have an instrumental music program, so this is one thing that teachers can do – have children singing,” Ms Muller said.
“And it’s the best thing. They can come and just enjoy singing for singing’s sake.”
