EMERGENCY SERVICE personnel visited St Ursula's College yesterday, to educate the next generation of drivers about road safety practices.
Students from Year 10 to 12, many of them learner or provisional drivers, were given clarification on the road rules and then had the chance to inspect the emergency service vehicles.
Toowoomba Road Policing Unit Senior Constable Philip Dunster spoke during the presentation, which was held by the Department of Transport and Main Roads as part of Road Safety Week.
"We have spoken to the students about their responsibilities when it comes to driving a motor vehicle and helped them understand that all drivers must take responsibility when it comes to road safety," Senior Constable Dunster said.
"Statistically most age group accidents occur when people first get their provisional licences because they are no longer supervised. It's been very well received and well attended, the children are really sucking this information up and I hope they continue to do so."
Year 11 student Olivia Holgate, who is a learner driver, said many interesting points were raised during the presentation.
"There are a lot of people who are over confident on the road," she said.
"For the most part, my friends are safe drivers, but things like this really help."
