Details: One dead, three fighting for life after horrific crash

A senior firefighter has described the crash which left one woman dead and three with life-threatening injuries as one of the worst he has witnessed in his career.

A senior firefighter has described a fatal crash at Mount Tyson as one of the worst he has witnessed.

Shortly after 10.15am on Thursday, a Mazda SUV carrying a family of six and a semi-trailer travelling westbound on the Toowoomba-Cecil Plains Road collided.

The collision killed a woman and left three people with life-threatening injuries.

A man suffered critical head and chest injuries and was flown by rescue chopper to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.

A young girl suffered critical head and spinal injuries and was flown to the Princess Alexandra Hospital, while a teenage girl suffered critical head and abdominal injuries and was flown to the Queensland Children’s Hospital.

Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics treated a primary-school-age boy and girl for minor injuries and transported them to the Toowoomba Hospital by road.

The male truck driver also suffered minor injuries and was transported by road to the Toowoomba Hospital

Forensic Crash Unit investigators worked through the day to determine the cause of the horrific crash.

Charlton Fire Station station officer Brad Rosenblatt said the incident was shocking for all involved, including a group of passing motorists who rendered first aid while waiting for paramedics to arrive.

“It was pretty confronting for the crews when we arrived,” he said

“We have six people injured in one vehicle as well as the truck driver.

He thanked the passing motorists who had helped out.

“They have done an amazing job to first up be able to go over to the scene and assist the patients in the vehicle,” station officer Rosenblatt said.

The Mazda suffered significant damage in the collision, and firefighters needed cutting equipment to free the occupants.

Station officer Rosenblatt said the crash was a timely reminder for motorists to drive to the conditions while on country roads.

“I wouldn’t class (Toowoomba-Cecil Plains Road) as a high-risk road because it is the same as any other country road,” he said.

“The conditions of the road can be quite bumpy.

“It is a reminder to everybody to slow down.”
