THE Rural Centre of Excellence at the Toowoomba TAFE campus would be expanded if Labor is returned to government on October 31.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said a re-elected Palaszczuk Government would invest $1 million for stage two of the centre.

It forms part of her $100 million Equipping TAFE for our Future policy.

“I want young people growing up on the Darling Downs to have access to world class training facilities to get them into rewarding careers,” Ms Palaszczuk said.

“We’re focused on skilling people in traditional areas like agriculture but also new industries and advanced manufacturing.”

The Premier said the $1 million commitment to TAFE on the Darling Downs would further improve training to increase productivity for agricultural business.

Toowoomba North Labor candidate Megan O’Hara Sullivan said the Rural Centre of Excellence would deliver high-quality training to the region’s future rural industry workforce.

“They’ll learn the latest practices in innovative, sustainable agriculture and horticulture, which is so important for Toowoomba and the Darling Downs,” she said.

“We have a world-class TAFE system and the Palaszczuk Government will keep it that way, especially here on the Darling Downs.”

The first stage of the Rural Centre of Excellence was unveiled by Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk and Training Minister Shannon Fentiman in September 2018 when the government spent a week working from Toowoomba.

The training facility, located on Campbell St, opened in February this year.
