RSPCA Toowoomba moves to new facility

RSPCA Toowoomba is preparing to move 150 animals to its new facility in preparation for opening.

NEXT Monday will be a busy day for staff and volunteers of RSPCA Toowoomba, as they move 150 animals to their new Wellcamp Business Park facility in preparation for opening.

The new $12.5 million shelter, which was completed late last year, features long-stay care for abused and neglected animals and short-term boarding facilities for pets.

RSPCA Toowoomba animal care centre manager Cassie Ellis said the new facility was much needed.

"We're excited to be moving into this amazing new place. It's going to be better for the animals most importantly and also better for the volunteers, staff and public to come visit us," Ms Ellis said.

"This facility is bigger and has a better layout so we will be able achieve more positive animal outcomes given the resources that we have.

"We definitely needed the upgrade. We are always at capacity at our (old site)."

The Wellcamp facility is twice as big as the organisation's current Vanity St base according to Ms Ellis, and it has the ability to house 40 dogs and 20 cats in need of adoption and 40 dogs and 32 cats in boarding.

She said the team was now finishing the final preparations ahead of the move.

"We don't yet have a grand opening day," she said.

"We'll be moving around 150 animals on Monday. It sounds like a lot but we will get it done in a day.

"We are also holding volunteer inductions. We are twice as big now so we need more volunteers."

Work started on the new facility in March 2019 after years of planning and fundraising.

The construction was partially funded through the Federal Government's Building Better Regions fund.

She said residents could apply to volunteer through the RSPCA's website.

The new facility is located on Airport Dr at Wellcamp Business Park.
