THE company that built the Toowoomba Bypass has confirmed it is currently undertaking roadworks on the viaduct because of uneven surface issues.

“The inside eastbound lane has been closed. This lane will remain closed while repairs are undertaken,” a Nexus spokeswoman said.

“As part of routine inspections carried out by the operations and maintenance team, we have decided that the lane needs to be closed to ensure ongoing safety for all users. All westbound lanes will remain open and the second eastbound lane will be open. The speed will be reduced to 60km in the area.

“We are continuing to work closely with (the State Government) to determine the cause and final approach to return the surface to its original condition and anticipated that these repairs will commence as soon as possible.

“We urge all road users to take care, follow signage and directions of the crews out in the area. The surface will continue to be monitored daily, to ensure ongoing safety for all road users.”
