Restaurant donates food to homeless

A Toowoomba restaurant has donated its leftover food to the homeless after closing this week.

MAKING the best of a bad situation, Fitzy's Toowoomba donated its perishable food to Base Services after having to close its doors this week.

Fitzy's marketing manager Anita Armanasco said the team wanted to help the community out however it could.

"There's really no sense in throwing good food out," Ms Armanasco said.

"We thought, on Sunday, that we would still be operational so we still had stock.

"We knew these guys were struggling with donations, so if they can make use of our hardship for a short amount of time, that's what it's all about.

"We're all in this together."

The restaurant donated a whole van load of potatoes, carrots, tomatoes and other vegetables which Base Services will use to make takeaway meals for the homeless.

"It's amazing. I love the support of our amazing community," Base Services co-ordinator Nat Spary said.

"Brad and Bronnie (Fitzgibbons), their generosity is amazing. Through the difficult circumstances they're going through, they're willing to give and help others.

"This is going to help out with our takeaway packs. "For Fitzy's and the Base Services, there's been a lot of changes, and it's difficult.

"We're just working it out day by day and doing what we can for others. And that's what Australians do.

"When I look at what Fitzy's is doing, I really believe this difficult time is going to bring out the best in people."
