Toowoomba and much of Queensland is in for a scorcher today, with temperatures to soar to 33 degrees in the Garden City.
The unseasonably hot weather will hit most of southeast Queensland with severe fire danger ratings in place.
Warwick will reach 34 degrees today, Dalby and Gatton are predicted to reach 37 degrees, while Chinchilla residents will swelter in 38 degree heat.
Meteorologist James Thompson said a fire weather warning had been issued for parts of the Darling Downs, Maranoa, Granite Belt, Warrego, Central Highlands and Coalfields.
“Those conditions really are heating up with unseasonably hot temperatures across Queensland,” he said.
“This will result in the maximums expected to be five to eight degrees above average.
“Raised dust is also possible with hot, dry and gusty winds forecast.”
The change in weather follows a series of storms late last week and the hot conditions are being caused by an upper level trough which is moving east across the state today.
Slightly cooler weather is expected directly after with an associated cold front moving along with it.
Tomorrow Toowoomba temperatures are set to drop to between 13 and 27 degrees, with the same conditions for Saturday.
Sunday temperatures will return to average with a minimum of 14 degrees and maximum of 23 degrees.
Severe Fire Danger is forecast for the following forecast districts Central Highlands and Coalfields, Maranoa and Warrego and Darling Downs and Granite Belt.
