TOOWOOMBA dog lovers will be free to frolic with their furry friends for longer with an upgrade coming to Queens Park.

The Toowoomba Regional Council will improve the lighting and security at the off-leash park so master and pup can exercise well into the night.

The project is part of the park’s stage five upgrades.

There will be five light poles and two CCTV cameras installed.

Parks and recreation services portfolio leader Cr Joe Ramia said the upgrade would improve community safety and provide more links to the city centre through the park.

“The works would include expansion of pathway lighting in the dog off-leash area and expansion of City Safe infrastructure,” he said.

“Pedestrian access along the most footpaths will be maintained during construction, however, the footpath running diagonally from the central amenities to the botanic gardens may at times have sections closed off to enable works to take place.”

The dog off-leash park will remain open during the construction period and the adjacent footpath will be fenced off during the upgrade.

The park area north of the Lindsay Street carpark may be partially cordoned off to facilitate construction work.

Construction will start on Monday and take up to three weeks to complete.

Workers will be onsite from 6.30am-6.30pm on weekdays until the upgrade is done.
