A PRIVATE clinic focused on supporting and treating people with mental health issues will open in Toowoomba this weekend.
The Toowoomba Clinic is a 27-bed mental health clinic based just across from the Toowoomba Hospital on Pechey St, which will provide services for people living across southwest Queensland.
Clinic CEO and nursing director Bronwyn McCullagh said people living in regional and remote areas were at a higher risk of developing mental health problems.
"Mental health issues are high across our society and in our families, but they are higher among farmers, Indigenous Australians and remote and rural residents," she said.
"Many of these people don't want to go to big cities for help - they want to stay in a regional environment where they feel safe and supported.
"The Toowoomba Clinic will provide that space."
Ms McCullagh said the two-storey facility featured four group therapy rooms, consultation suites and specialised programs on topics like depression, anxiety, PTSD and pain.
"The Toowoomba Clinic is a private, community-led initiative from a group of community people with a passion for mental health," she said.
"The founders are all driven by the desire to address the issue of insufficient mental health care in regional, rural and remote areas."
The clinic will be officially opened in a special ceremony tomorrow.
