The State Government appears to have moved forward the long-awaited Toowoomba to Warwick water pipeline (T2WP), with residents being invited to have their say on it.
Community consultation with Toowoomba and Warwick locals will be run online.
It comes more than two years after Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk announced the pipeline, which was in response to pleas from the Southern Downs Regional Council.
“We’ll continue to invest in new water infrastructure to create jobs and ensure the safety and security of regional communities in the future,” the Premier said.
Water Minister Glenn Butcher said community consultation was important, in addition to technical assessments which are already underway.
“I want to hear the views of the community so that, in consultation with councils, we can make the right decisions,” he said.
“The proposal has been expanded to include Cambooya, Greenmount, Nobby and Clifton; communities that we know have water security challenges as well.”
The Toowoomba Regional Council only this week delayed work on its own southern pipeline strategy until it could hear from the State Government on the T2WP.
Ms Palaszczuk said the pipeline would supply water to drought-stricken communities like Clifton, ensuring the council’s water security would not be affected.
