THE Toowoomba City Aerodrome could be getting a cafe to service the site and surrounding area, thanks to a council resolution.

Councillors voted at the final meeting of the term today to endorse the motion, which would call for tenders to establish a cafe at the aerodrome.

The opportunity was highlighted and developed by the Toowoomba City Aerodrome advisory committee, according to the report by TRC strategic property officer Chris Theodosis.

"There are up to 70 employees in the aerodrome precinct and a number of local businesses and residences nearby that would benefit from having a cafe in proximity - not just tenants, but visiting pilots and passengers may use the cafe," the report said.

"There may be an increase in training aircraft related to the start-up of the Qantas Group Pilot Academy, hence instructors and trainee pilots may wish to use the facility.

"It is proposed that a small space be offered for lease in the terminal building at the aerodrome for a cafe.

"The premises would be offered as is and any incoming lessee would be responsible for all

provision of furniture, fittings and equipment."

The successful lessee would be responsible for furniture, fittings and equipment.

Cr James O'Shea moved the motion, arguing it was a good opportunity to make better use of the aerodrome.

"It's something that's been strongly endorsed through the advisory committee, around an opportunity to utilise this space," he said.

"There are 70-odd staff that are there daily, so I think it's a good opportunity to go to tender and see what's out there."

While regular public transport stopped services from the aerodrome in 2015, the terminal is still used as a stopover for the Royal Flying Doctor Service and charter operators.

The tender will be advertised through the online LG Tenderbox portal, in The Chronicle and in the Air to Ground newsletter.
