A MUCH-LOVED Italian restaurant in Toowoomba is opening at a new location within the CBD this week.

Moving from its current home at High Street Plaza in Rangeville, Piccolo Papa will soon be serving its popular wood-fired pizzas and tasty pastas from Grand Central Shopping Centre.

Piccolo Papa will now be located on level one near the Market Room with after-hours and night access on Duggan Lane.

Owners Ceyda and Liam Saggers will open the doors on Wednesday.

Mrs Saggers said the move was the right step for the bustling restaurant.

"We opened in May 2014 and over the years we began outgrowing our site, it became too small and we weren't able to continue expanding and changing our menu because we just didn't have the room," she said.

"We started out cooking pizzas and pastas, and then breakfasts on weekends and cooking specials every now and then.

"But now with our new site we will be cooking all the classic favourites that our customers love but also adding main meals such as traditional Italian seafood and pork dishes."

Piccolo Papa is known for serving up decadent and creative breakfast dishes and now it will be offering breakfast seven days a week.

Mrs Saggers said it had been a journey to get where they are today, with original plans to open in May.

"When Covid hit we were part way through construction but we stopped unsure of what would be the future," she said.

"It was disappointing but we stayed positive and we're very exited to be opening.

"The laneway is perfect, it has lots of atmosphere and was perfect for what we were looking for."

Now with longer opening hours and an expanded menu Piccolo Papa has gone from eight staff to 25.

"We are creating job, and it's something I think is so important in the middle of this pandemic," she said.
