Prime Minister Scott Morrison has written to voters in the Groom electorate asking them to support the LNP’s Garth Hamilton in the upcoming by-election.
The by-election was sparked by the resignation of former Groom MP Dr John McVeigh, who left politics to care for his wife Anita as she recovered from a significant illness.
The Prime Minister described Dr McVeigh as a “true gentleman” and that his decision to retire from politics was “difficult for him”.
However, he said the LNP had an “excellent” candidate in Mr Hamilton.
“As an engineer, Garth has helped deliver significant projects around the world – from water infrastructure in the Middle East, to tube stations in London and mining projects in Australia,” the PM wrote.
“His experience would be invaluable in our government. As the father of three young children, Garth is very committed to helping build the future of the Darling Downs.
“I ask for your support for Garth Hamilton and the LNP.”
