PHOTOS: Catch the action from Day five of Eisteddfod

Families have travelled from far and wide for the Darling Downs Eisteddfod – check out the photos here.

Happy to travel for eisteddfod

THERE have been some early starts for the Briscoe family this week, as they have been driving to the Darling Downs Eisteddfod from Aratula.

Mum Jodie Briscoe said the morning drives had been worth it as her children were excited to perform.

"If we weren't here today it would have been 11 months since my children had been on stage, and usually they do at least eight (performances) a year," Ms Briscoe said.

"Millmerran has been an awesome, friendly community, and we have enjoyed being here - we will definitely travel back to do this again in the future."

She said her children, who practise with The Wallace Academy in Ipswich, had learnt a lot from dance.

"My kids dance because they love it, it's fun, it's recreational, it's social," she said.

"If there is something in your life that you love and you don't get to do it, it's like you're missing a little bit of your soul."

Her daughter, Amilee Briscoe, competed in the tap dance section of the competition yesterday.

"(I like it) because you get to use your imagination and it makes you feel like you fit in somewhere," Amilee said.

"I feel nervous at the beginning, but as soon as the music starts I forget everything around me."

Joining the Briscoes at the competition was a Mackay family, who has been staying at Brookstead.

"We travel regularly, it's like every other eisteddfod except maybe a little more distance," Mackay mum Kylee Stanton said.

"We had a chat to the ladies who organised the eisteddfod (on Tuesday), they are a fantastic bunch of people who are trying to expand on the dancing community around here.

"If anyone is travelling through here, take the time to stop for a couple of hours - we've eaten at a few places around here trying to support the local economy, the food is fantastic."

The competition continues until tomorrow.
