Two Toowoomba-based LNP MPs now hold senior positions within the party after state Opposition Leader David Crisafulli announced his new front bench across the weekend, and another has been made party whip.
Toowoomba South MP David Janetzki was named deputy LNP leader by his party colleagues last week, but is also the party’s shadow treasurer and investment and trade spokesman.
He was previously the shadow attorney general.
Condamine MP Pat Weir, who has spent his first two terms in parliament as a backbencher has been named the party’s natural resources, mines and energy spokesman.
“I’m very honoured to have been asked to be a shadow minister,” Mr Weir said.
“I’ve been deputy chair of the Natural Resources, Agricultural Industry Development and Environment Committee before, so I’ve had a long involvement in all issues regarding natural resources.”
Mr Weir said he reiterated his calls for the State Government to approve the New Acland Coal Mine stage three expansion, but other LNP policies would be reviewed.
“We’ve just been through an election campaign where we unfortunately placed second,” he said.
“All policies will be reviewed.”
Toowoomba North MP Trevor Watts has been appointed the party’s whip, a position he previously held in the lead-up to the 2017 election.
The whip is one of the major parliamentary roles, as they ensure party MPs attend the chamber and support their party when a vote is taken.
