With Orientation Week kicking off today the University of Southern Queensland will welcome thousands of students this week as they receive an introduction to university life.
Almost 3000 fresh faces will hit the books this semester including 2020 school-leaver Catherine Power.
The first-year Bachelor of Science student said she couldn’t wait to get involved in university life.
“I’m very keen to meet everyone, get inspired by their stories and where they want university to take them,” Miss Power said.
“Being able to stay in my community while I go into this next stage of my life has given me the extra confidence and reassurance I need.
“There was a lot of stress last year through COVID-19, and in the lead up to ATARs being released, so starting O-Week today feels so surreal.”
Vice-Chancellor Professor Geraldine Mackenzie said there was an increase in school leaver applicants via QTAC with particular interest in health, education, and engineering programs.
“The University prides itself on the quality of student experience and Orientation Week is one of the ways we can ensure these students can continue to be equipped for success,” she said.
This semester’s O-week will consist of live webinars and workshops, opportunities for students to meet teaching and support staff, as well as student social activities.
