AFTER a below average season of rainfall throughout autumn, the Bureau of Meteorology is predicting higher than average rainfall for winter.
Toowoomba received 12.6mm of rain in May, 6.8mm in April and 33.6mm in March.
BOM meteorologist Peter Markworth said the average rainfall for Toowoomba in March was 84.2mm.
“For Toowoomba in June the average monthly rainfall is 36.1mm, July is 28.6mm, August is 29.8mm,” Mr Markworth said.
“The outlook looks like there is a good to fair chance, 60-70 per cent, the Toowoomba region could see higher than average rainfall over the June to August period.”
Mr Markworth said despite the first day of winter being a warm 21 degrees, a cool change would drop the maximum temperature to 14 degrees tomorrow, with a minimum of 7 degrees.
“We have a trough moving through bringing quite a bit of dry cool air behind it,” Mr Markworth said.
“That’s being generated from a high pressure system which is moving through the Great Australian Bight, pushing that cool dry air up from the southern states.
“The minimum will drop again on Wednesday down to four degrees. The maximum will be the lowest on Tuesday and the minimum to be lowest on Wednesday.”
