New CBD drive-through coffee shop opens this week

A TOOWOOMBA company will open its first drive-through coffee shop tomorrow, in a bid to help keep people in work during COVID-19.
The Hop Thru Cafe will be serving hot coffee and fresh food at 247 James St in Toowoomba City, next door to the Washed on James car wash.
The business is the brainchild of Carmel Tulloch, who also owns CCP Your Catering People that operates the University of Southern Queensland campus refectory.
Her daughter Innez said the new shop was a way to diversify business operations and keep people employed during the pandemic.
"We've been out at the uni refectory at the campus, and there were big changes out there so we decided to change our direction and open up the drive-through," she said.
"It's been a fast process, but it's been really fun."
Ms Tulloch said one of the biggest aspects was around getting the food items right.
"We've never done drive-through before, so we've had to tailor the menu," she said.
"We're still making it really fresh, but having it able to move from one window to the next is the key, and to make it easy for people to have a bite on the go."
Motorists can access it from the eastbound lanes.
The cafe and neighbouring car wash were both part of the same development application that was approved by the Toowoomba Regional Council in 2017.
