A FORMER president of the Toowoomba Chamber of Commerce has put her hand up to run for council in next year's local government election.
Joy Mingay announced her candidacy this morning, arguing her 12 years of work with the region's small businesses would make her successful.
"After so many years involved in Toowoomba Chamber, I want to ensure that small business gets a fair go, either through opportunities to tender for council work or just making it easier for small business to operate in our region," she said.
"Small business is the backbone of our community and a strong small business community means more jobs for future generations to help grow this region.
"I think not everyone gets dealt the same hand, so as a community we need to ensure that everyone gets a fair go and no one gets left behind.
"A fair community is a strong community and one we should all want to be a part of."
Ms Mingay said she would push for greater accountability and transparency from councillors and departments, encourage small business growth, support a diverse economy and offer a level playing field for both developers and the community if elected.
She also said she would encourage greater investment from the council into tourism.
Ms Mingay is the latest candidate to put their hand up for the 2020 election.
