It is the moment that stops the nation, and with all the chaos of 2020 it is one many people around the country will cheerfully embrace.

Grand Central marketing manager Julie Thompson said 2020s spring carnival calls for all the bells and all the whistles when its comes to dressing to impress.

“This is the year to embrace the colour and vibrancy that is spring,” she said.

“While your events and soiree’s might be smaller in number and more intimate than usual, it doesn’t mean your fashion game has to shrink back, in fact we think it should shout a little louder this year,” she said.

Ms Thompson said this year, Melbourne Cup Day is no time to be shy.

“Melbourne Cup Day is the day to go big and bold and to express your individual, unique style,” she said.

“Colour is a great place to start and as a general rule of thumb, try to avoid black.”

Grand Central has offered some key racewear trends, with Florence and Marabel showing off the styles.

Melbourne Cup 2020: How will it work during COVID?

Oversized Print Classic polka dots, 60’s inspired floral wallpaper prints, and bold graphic patterns have been amplified this season. Whether you’ve chosen a kaleidoscope of colour or a subtle tonal blend, when it comes to accessorising, choose a complimentary tone or pick up one of the accents in the print to avoid outfit overwhelm.

Pop of Pink There is no doubting pink is trending this season and with so many shades to choose from, there’s something for everyone. If it all feels a little too girly, consider a bold neon shade.

Neon Lights It’s not just neon pinks making a statement this season, yellow, green and orange are strong features. Pair with white, tan and or black and let the colour speak

Devil in the detail Ruffles, puffed sleeves, one shoulder dresses and Broderie Anglaise. This season spring is all about the details and it’s the details that are your secret to creating signature style. Inject your personality into your outfit with the use of interesting textures, shapes and fabrication to make it your own.

Final touch Don’t feel as though you have to match all of your accessories by colour. As long as the tones are complimentary, this is a great opportunity for you to create some interesting contrasts. For the ladies, hats, fascinators and headbands are the must-have accessory of the day.
