FOR AMY Pattison, yoga is not just about the exercise, but it's also about headspace.
"It's about being able to separate yourself from what's going on in your life and understanding how you're actually feeling and focusing on that," she said.
The instructor of three years, who works at Zama Yoga, was this week voted Toowoomba's favourite yoga instructor, winning 34 per cent of the vote.
Lesleigh Camm from Lesleigh's Yoga Classes came in second with 30 per cent, while Terri Thornton from Arise. Yoga came in third with 19 per cent of the vote.
"It's just very humbling," Ms Pattison said of the vote results.
"I think it's a really beautiful kind way for people to express their gratitude for doing what I do. We certainly don't do (yoga) for the recognition, we don't do it for praise, we don't do it for glory, it's just something that we've found that we love, and we want to share it."
Ms Pattison said yoga was not about the instructor, but about the individual taking part in the sessions.
"We're just watching and encouraging and inspiring," she said.
"It's not even about the teacher. Yoga is completely about the individual on the mat and nothing else."
She said she encouraged everyone to give yoga a go.
"It might actually be the best thing you ever do for yourself."
