TOOWOOMBA'S medieval combat team, the Tyr's Warriors, have held their own during a national selection round at the Thunderbolt Cup in Uralla this weekend.
Although only forming six months prior, the team fought valiantly against a tough first round draw that included teams from Victoria, New South Wales and New Zealand.
Team captain Jaccob Dawes took home two wins in the profight (middle weight) and longsword and his teammate Kyle Weblin won gold in the profight (lightweight). Jaxon Harris won silver in the longsword, profight and sword and shield.
Mr Dawes said the team surprised the competition.
"A lot of the teams have been watching us to see how we have been coming along," Mr Dawes said.
"They were shocked at how well we did. We took out a lot of key competitors in the fights, we weren't a pushover team."
The team will next compete at the Arnold Sports Festival Australia in Melbourne in March.
