The mother of Nicholas Weribone has pleaded for the people who assaulted the 31-year-old Toowoomba man, and left him with a critical head injury, to come forward.
Mr Weribone was involved in a disturbance at a Wine Drive home about 8.30pm on Monday that ended with him lying unconscious in the street.
The Chronicle understands several potential witnesses have been less than helpful.
“All I want is for these b******s to be caught,” Dot Weribone said.
“If anyone has any information about the incident that happened with my son Nicko could you please call Crime Stoppers.
“No information is too little or too small.
“I will not stop until my son gets justice.”
Mr Weribone remains in a critical condition in the Princess Alexandra Hospital’s intensive care unit.
Witnesses to a Wilsonton Heights disturbance describe hearing a door slam and a car speed off before discovering a young man lying in a pool of blood with a grisly head injury.
Emergency services responded to an incident at Melita Crescent, near the intersection with Wine Drive, between 8.30pm and 8.40pm on Monday after reports of a fight in progress.
One neighbour, who wished to remain anonymous, rushed to help the fallen man, covering him with a blanket while her father phoned triple-0.
“I went over there and I had my daughter’s cloth nappies under his head and on his head,” she said.
“He was hit over the head by something.”
The woman said the man had suffered what look like a serious skull fracture.
“He was lying on the road not moving at all … we saw a pool of blood around his head.”
Despite the horrific scene, the woman said the Wine Drive area was usually very quiet and she had not heard any recent disturbances at the address.
“The neighbourhood is actually really good,” she said.
The injured man has been confirmed as Nicholas Weribone, a 31-year-old North Toowoomba man.
A Queensland Ambulance Services spokesman confirmed a man was transported to Toowoomba Hospital in a critical condition with significant head injuries after the incident.
He was later transported to Princess Alexandra Hospital’s intensive care unit where here remains in a critical but stable condition.
Toowoomba detectives established a crime scene at the home where police believe the fight started.
Scientific officers processed the scene throughout yesterday while detectives canvassed the neighbourhood.
